#OccupyUGC: Day 11
Today a group of students from DU, JNU, Jamia, AUD, Wardha and several students’ organizations planned a flash protest against UGC Chairperson Ved Prakash, who was invited as the chief guest in the valedictory function of the Taleemi Mela at Jamia. Interestingly Ved Prakash was absent from the scene and moreover merely 20 minutes prior to the function, all gates of the Ansari Auditorium were closed by the appointed volunteers of the Jamia administration and Ved Prakash’s name on the main banner in the venue was covered.
The students who were present there to protest against Ved Prakash’s non-committal approach and the UGC distributed pamphlets and talked to thousands of people present there to partake in the Taleemi Mela. They also appealed to the people to join the ongoing #Occupy UGC Movement in front of the UGC main gate, ITO, Delhi. Ved Prakash’s absence from the Valedictory function evinces the utter threat and fear of the Government from the ongoing #Occupy UGC Movement.
The #Occupy Movement has been going on since 11 days for increment of Non-NET fellowships, ensuring fellowships to all researchers, scrapping the proposal of the review committee, against the trajectory of fund cuts in the education sector, which is being desperately pushed in the WTO/GATTS blueprints.
