On 2nd November, two pastors ruthlessly beaten by a mob of right winger Hindutva group in Dhamteri district of Chhattisgarh.
According to local reports, the right wingers disrupted a prayer meeting, beat the two pastors, burned Bibles, and demanded the Christians stop holding worship services in the Biler village.
As per the local sources report the attack started around 4 in the evening when a mob led by Rajnikanth Devaghan and Nilambari Sahu disrupted a prayer meeting taking place in the village.
The mob dragged Pastor Sasharath Maanikpuri and Pastor Kesar Manikpuri from the house where the prayer meeting was taking place, verbally abused them, and beat them.
Prosecuation.org reports that the mob then confiscated Bibles and other Christian texts from the pastors and the congregation and burned them in the street outside of the building where the prayer meeting was taking place.
The Hindutva mob told the Christians to turn back to Hinduism and threatened that if they continued to hold worship services, they would be killed.
One of the right wingers told the Christians that they are not allowed to read the Bible, or any other book related to the Christian faith.
Earlier this month, eight Christian families from India’s Chhattisgarh state were driven out of their village after refusing to convert to Hinduism and participate in a Ghar Wapsi ceremony organized by Hindu nationalists. The Christian families now face a social boycott by Hindu villagers, denying them access to the village’s water well, agricultural fields, and social events.
Across India, attacks on Christians and their places of worship have been increasing in both number and severity. In Chhattisgarh, hate speeches made by right winger Hindu leaders and BJP politicians have fueled a hate campaign against Christians in the state’s tribal areas. With little resistance from local authorities, perpetrators of this hate campaign believe they have the tacit approval from the state to persecute Christians.
